柯教授是人类学领域与华人移民研究领域的杰出学者，曾任职于马来西亚莫纳什大学，担任该大学艺术与社会科学学院院长和人类学教授，以及香港大学助理教授和墨尔本大学讲师。柯教授曾先后在哈佛燕京学社、哈佛大学、巴黎大学、牛津大学、新加坡南洋理工大学等机构担任客座教授。
柯教授著有独著4本（2本再版，1本出版中文版），编辑/合著9本，担任6个学术期刊的客座编辑/合作编辑，并发表论文近90篇。
柯教授的主要研究领域包括：（1）全球华人-中国联系；移民与身份认同；华人社团；华人妇女及其社会网络资本；华人文化遗产；中国-全球华人慈善事业；中医中药的全球化（1）地区与全球化；佛教与社会；以及东南亚的佛教慈善事业。
Khun Eng Kuah is distinguished professor of Anthropology and Chinese Diaspora Studies at the School of International Studies and Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies, Jinan University (Guangzhou, China). She was Professor of Anthropology and Head of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong and lecturer at University of Melbourne. She also held visiting positions at Harvard-Yenching Institute, Harvard University (USA), University of Paris (France), Oxford University (UK) and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
She has published 4 sole-author books (2 with 2nd edition and one with a Chinese version), 9 edited or co-edited books and guest editor/co-editor of 6 special theme journal issues and close to 90 journal articles and book chapters.
Her key areas of research specialization include (i) Global Chinese - China Connections; migration and identity; Chinese voluntary organizations; Chinese women , their social and cyber-capital; Chinese cultural heritage; China - Global Chinese philanthropy; and globalization of traditional Chinese medicine and herbal tea (ii) Religion and modernization; Buddhism and society; and Buddhist Philanthropy in East and Southeast Asia.
