In this lecture, Evelyn Hu-DeHart, Professor of History, American Studies, and Ethnic Studies, follows exchanges between China and America from the Ming to the Qing dynasties. She focuses on the exchange of American silver for Chinese silk, porcelain and other fine products via Manila, which was colonized by Spaniards from Mexico. Professor Hu-DeHart also offers a close-up view of the trans-Pacific exchange of food and agricultural products, as well as the early migrants from Asia to America.
